After reading the first book and thoroughly enjoying it, I couldn't wait to read part 2-- well book 1 was waaaaaaaaaaay better ! Book 2 didn't do it for me. It had the same errors---( please fire your editor writer).... I also was getting a headache from all the doctors technical terms... It was just a long tiresome dribble... I was with don don when he told the doctor she giving him a headache with all the doctor rambling she was doing--- I was like dang trick--- can you just give a short version & get to the dang point! It was just on & on & on--- ugh! The first book was AWESOME!!!!! It had me on the floor rolling! I didn't even bust a smile reading book 2. all the characters are still morons & f' ups.... Although book 2 was sort of timid for me, I'm willing to read book 3 for the simple fact that I was hooked by book 1... I also find the fake Christianity & fake marriage to be a bit annoying--- JAMES Sr. Is so disgusting I don't understand how Gloria-- supposedly a god fearing church lady who loves her family, allowed that man to do those things ? has me beyond piss! Book 2 was more serious than book 1, where in book 1 I didn't feel sorry for any of the morons, I actually felt sorry for Alicia, Sabrina Denise & JJ--- I know the bible says to honor thy mother & father----but damn that-- I would've killed the both of them! ... Gloria is disgusting! Gloria pretends to be a good mother while all the while SHE KNEW!!!! WTF? I'm more interested in why Sabrina wasn't really mentioned in book 2, she probably showed up on 2 chapters throughout the entire story-- I was curious to see if she still a complete B? Alicia is just ditzy..Denise is just confuse..I think she should know all the skeletons in her families closet.... You know I always knew parents ARE responsible on how their children turn out... . Parents either love & support or screw up their kids lives.... case in point GLORIA & James Sr. James Sr. own mother & father...That whole entire family needs counseling.. That's what I got from this story... So I liked It; It wasn't funny but I don't think it was meant to be. So looking forward to book 3...Product details

Card House The Second Hand edition by J Maurice Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
With the way the First Hand ended I really didn't know what to expect from the Second Hand, but I will say what surprised me is when Constance came to Paula's rescue when Jerome attacked her in their apartment. Although in the first book Paula left Constance high and dry by herself to have sex with Jerome, Constance still managed to stay by her roommate's side in her greatest time of need. I was filled with thrill and excitement as Constance struggled to break open Paula's bedroom door with that crowbar. Then once she made it inside to go as far as putting her own life in jeopardy by trying to fight Jerome off of her. Despite the fact Jerome got the best of them both, I admire the fact Constance stayed by her side even down to checking on her in the hospital. Now that's true unconditional friendship if you ask me. By reading the excerpts from The Reshuffle, I can conclude that Paula's baby made it out alright, I just wonder what how her relationship with Jerome will be once he is released from prison. Book 3 should be very exciting from what I see thus far. Good job J. Maurice, good job.
In the follow up to Card House The First Hand, the Second Hand brings you back into the Yarbrough household. The one scene that really captured my attention and my heart the most, was the scene where Sabrina, finally confronted her mother, Gloria about the verbal, physical, and sexual abuse, that she endured as a teenager from her father, James. J Maurice did an excellent job of comparing and contrasting the mind state of the modern woman vs. that of the pre- women's rights woman, in their conversation. On one hand you have a strong minded, outspoken, and at sometimes violent Sabrina who refused to let any man control her. Then we have Gloria, a woman from the South who was brought up in an era where women were primarily child bearers and housewives. She had very little education, no job skills, and had four children she had to raise. As a result although she knew that James' actions were toxic to her children, she lacked the courage and necessary tools she needed to survive on her own. I can imagine it had to be pretty rough knowing all the things that were going on in that house, yet feeling completely helpless. I understand she allowed it, because James was the bread winner and provided food, clothes, and shelter for the household, but Sabrina being a modern woman could never absorb that concept. The way she admonished her mother, you could feel the emotions ripping through the pages. I was almost at the brink of tears as if I were standing there watching the entire ordeal unfold. This is a great story filled with several climatic scenes and revelations. I am looking forward to the Reshuffle, that excerpt has my mind wandering what book 3 has in store.
This whole book was in the first book. So why did the author make this book. If I would have bought both this books I would have been mad. I hope no body made that mistake
The writing was just horrible! Did anyone proofread this mess!!!! The tomfoolery was out of control. The whole church scene was blasphemous! The medical prognosis for Paula was gibberish and made absolutely no sense! I am to through with this series UGH
I sure hope you are coming back to finish this book. Why you leave us hanging like that? This is a good story, it just needs to be finished and soon ok!!!!
The story is good fast pace read keep you turning the pages, however what is the point of extending it. The story continues to the point where it will become a mess.
Like the first book this one was full of errors but it caught my attention and I read it until the end..I'm glad I did. There was a lot more action and it seems that things are really starting to turn up for everyone involved. Now that J Ace is back there is going to be hell to pay on the streets and I can't wait for the next part.
